The environment at the core of Scouting

“Nature study is the key activity in Scouting and Guiding.” - Baden-Powell

Through Scouting, young people are given the opportunities to experience and connect with nature. Nature is central to Scouting as it is one of the eight elements of the Scout method, and environmental protection plays a central role in the active citizens that Scouting creates.

Environmental education has played a prominent role in the Scout Movement since it was founded. The Scout Centre of Excellence for Nature and Environment (SCENES) and the World Conservation Badge were among the significant environmental program initiated in the 20th century. Established in 2008, The World Scout Environment Programme (WSEP) has been offering tools, resources and initiatives for all ages to help Scouts all around the world work together environmental action.
